The Case for Christ

A presentation by Lee Strobel. It can be found on YouTube under the same title.

Ezekiel 36:26

Christianity hinges on the resurrection of Jesus. If Jesus indeed resurrected from the dead then His claims of divine origin is true. Conversely, if Jesus didn’t come back to life after being crucified then the Christian faith is baseless (I Corinthians 15:17).

The four (4) E-s that prove Christianity is true; that summarize the evidence for Christianity.

Execution – Jesus was dead after crucifixion. There is no dispute among ancient and contemporary scholars (Christian and non-Christian) that Jesus was dead after being crucified. There are multiple ancient records outside the Bible that confirm the execution of Jesus.

Early – There are early reports that Jesus resurrected. Legends take time to develop and the early records of Jesus’s resurrection show that it wasn’t a legend it was a fact. The Apostles’ Creed from the first century establishes the truth of the resurrection of Jesus (I Corinthians 15:3-7).

Anyone can claim to be God, but Jesus backed it up with the empty tomb.

Lee Strobel

Empty tomb – The tomb was empty not because Jesus was not buried in it as most critics would suggest (the summary of the early Roman law specifically states that crucifixion victims could be buried). Even the enemies of Jesus confirmed that the tomb was empty because they lied that the disciples stole the body.

Eyewitness – Over a period of time, Jesus appears to more than 550 people, including His disciples, men, women and sceptics. There are no fewer than nine (9) ancient sources inside and outside the Bible that corroborate the encounter with the risen Christ.

The disciples were willing to die in their belief that Jesus resurrected. No one would willingly die for something they knew was a lie. It will take more faith to remain an atheist than to believe in Jesus.
