…when dealing with your family you must switch to a higher calling than Pastor, Prophet or Apostle—the calling of a father
Bishop T. D. Jakes
As a man…you have to pray without ceasing because problems will be coming to you without ceasing.
Dr. Myles Munroe
The responsibility of a man in the home can be summarized by the following:
Protector (Malachi 4:6) – The man in the home is God’s chosen foundation of the family, protection is in the silence, deal with the issues silently (deal with it with your mouth shut).
Provider – Not necessarily money (it’s more than just money), he provides covering wisdom, support, friendship, food, counsel, clothes, perspective, advice and insight. He has a giving spirit (sensitive to needs) – he adds to your life.
Promoter – He promotes somebody other than himself.
Priest (I Kings 2:1-4; I Timothy 2:8) – As a man you should have a prayer life. You have to pray without ceasing because problems will be coming to you without ceasing.
In your home when dealing with your family you must switch to a higher calling than Pastor, Prophet or Apostle—the calling of a father (the priest of your home). As the man in the family, when there’s trouble you have to be there (you have to show up).
Prophet (Genesis 35:17, 18) – A good father prophecies to his family; he speaks to the destiny of his family not their predicament.
The highest title on the earth that God gave to man is father. It is the same title He bears. The word father (‘abba’ – Hebrew; ‘pater’ – Greek) means source and sustainer. It also means nourisher and supporter.
Therefore, a father doesn’t just produce, he sustains.
How to show yourself a man according to Scripture (I Kings 2:3). Note the words of King David to his son Solomon.
I go the way of all the earth: be thou strong therefore, and shew thyself a man; And keep the charge of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself:
I Kings 2:2, 3
Thus, to show yourself a man you must:
— Be strong in the Lord
— Keep the charge of the Lord
— Walk in the ways of God
The 5 Purposes of a Man in the Home
Eden – To be a kingdom man you have to be in the presence of God constantly.
Job – You must have a job before you have a woman.
Cultivate – Bring the best out of something; God will not give you a finished product, He expects you to cultivate it. Develop, refine, educate and improve the woman that God gives you. The longer the woman stays with you, she must be better.
Protect – Your strength was given to you to protect the woman.
Teach – Teach your family the command of God. Therefore as a man you must be a reader (a learner) – Commit yourself to pursue knowledge. Invest in your own education. The cost of ignorance is always higher that the cost of knowledge (Proverbs 4:7).

It was really great to see you point out that provision is not just about money so that we do not have fathers who pay bills but are “absent” or men who think that they just need to get a job and then get married but do not bother about developing in the other areas.
Indeed! We must trust God to teach us the true meaning of fatherhood.
