3 Important tips to Transform Your Business Writing
This article is about writing compelling business write-ups. Most business write-ups are indeed tedious to read, so I have written this article as an aid to writing catchy business pieces.
In this write-up, I will share some tips I learnt and have applied, with astounding result. I believe these tips are invaluable for all writers but especially for fledgling writers tasked with writing business articles.
So, I’ll get straight to it…
#1
Bring the most important information to the foreground!
Most readers would not make it past the first paragraph, and they are not obliged to do so. So, you must lead with the most vital information.
Unlike novels that have twists, turns, and riveting plots, business pieces are not for entertainment but to inform and provoke a response.
Therefore, it is vital to foreground the call to respond.
We see this technique all the time in newspaper headlines and journalistic articles. These make use of bold titles, and each piece of writing usually leads with the information most relevant to readers.
If you think of the articles you’ve read, they probably had an intriguing title (this leads to the next point).
#2
Use snappy headings and sub-headings.
Apart from adding structure to your writing, headings and subheadings are perfect for highlighting the main points in your write-up.
Using headings and subheading when applicable lets the reader understand what each section of the write-up is about at a glance. And they should they decide to carry on reading your readers do so with prior knowledge of the content of each section.
#3
Make use of short paragraphs.
Have you ever read a document that looks like this one below?
You probably toiled over each line. And to add to that, I am sure it was a pain each time you lost track of where you stopped because it meant starting over again.
If you want to win your readers over, you have to make it easier for them to scan your write-up.
Studies conducted to track readers’ eye path as they scan through a document reveals that the reader’s eyes generally follow an F-Pattern.
With this knowledge, it makes sense to use concise sentences and brief paragraphs.
The best writers are like journalists because they know that there is no such thing as a captive audience.

Closing comment
If you’ve ever read a piece of business write-up, either for a business blog or probably a circulatory office mail, you would probably not describe it as moving, compelling, or even particularly interesting.
Boring…painful, and unbearable would be the words to describe the experience.
As a writer, you must write with your reader in mind.
