Leadership

How to Make An Impact as a Spiritual Leader

In one way or another, prominent leaders have, in varying measures, qualities that represent the core attributes of salt and light.

If you understand the attributes of salt and light and operate in your world as these essential commodities, you will be indispensable in any sphere you find yourself.

SALT

Dissecting the characteristics of salt helps to understand how to apply these essential qualities to your leadership style.

The uses of salt include the following: seasoning, preservation, and cleansing.

  • Seasoning – To add flavour to an otherwise bland meal
  • Preservation – To slow decay and degradation
  • Cleansing agent – (Salt is used to manufacture soap) To remove impurities

As a seasoning agent…

A leader adds flavour to mundane activities that would be lifeless and unsavoury on their own: activities like day-to-day conversations, relationships, work, etc.

As a leader, you should have within you the ability to turn ordinary moments into extraordinary moments.

This ability comes naturally. It is a result of the passion you have within you. Vitality comes from knowing whatever it is that anchors your spirit man, why you exist.

For a Christian, spiritedness comes from intimacy with God, the source and giver of Life: who is Life Himself. Once filled with His essence, you can animate any and everything you touch. It flows from within you and adds colour to the world around you.

As a preservative agent…

A leader holds back the moral decline. A leader slows the descent of society to total depravity.

Eventually, the world will end, and no human effort of the environmentalist can stop it. However, the endeavours of good leaders can delay the dissolution of the earth.

There are three (3) fronts that the leader is to preserve, but I’ll share just two (2):

  • Preserves themselves (fellow leaders) from being swallowed up by negative pressure – forming a community of like-minded leaders and providing encouragement and support to those to help those that might be wary.
  • Preserve others (those that would follow) that would be doomed if left to their own devices

As a cleansing agent…

A leader overcomes and overpowers the taint of evil by consistently living a life of integrity.

No matter how corrupt a place might be, the presence of a leader must overpower and outlast villainy. As a leader, your appearance must put a stop to unethical practices.

Not only that but, by the strength of your character, your influence as salt should be strong enough to eradicate the impurity of corruption.

Salt is a nuisance when concentrated in one place.

So, in your capacity as salt, you have the responsibility to filter into zones of maximum connectivity. You have the challenge to increase your sphere of influence. And the task to slow down the impending doom.

LIGHT

Light is a beacon: A beacon of hope. We talk about searching for the light at the end of the tunnel. But what about being a light within your sphere of influence?

Light brightens: Why don’t you search for ways to brighten the lives of those around you?

Light attracts: What qualities do you need to cultivate that will be attractive rather than repulsive?

Light dispels darkness & gloom: It cannot mix with darkness. Therefore, as light, you cannot associate with anything shady.

Light lights up: As a leader, your presence should be illuminating.

Light doesn’t struggle to shine. It will always trump darkness.

Operating as the salt and light is the only way to bring hope to a dark and unsavoury world.

A leader without these qualities is not a valuable leader.
